Frequently asked questions

Find out what you need to know about OraVet Dental Hygiene Chews

How to use OraVet®

  • My pet really likes OraVet® Chews. Is it safe to give more than one per day?

We do not recommend giving your dog more than one OraVet® Chew per day.

  • I feed my pet dental diet or dental chews already. How are OraVet® Chews different?

Our chews have a unique and remarkably effective dual-action mechanism. The chewing action helps scrub away the plaque. The special ingredient delmopinol then forms a protective barrier against the bacteria that lead to plaque and tartar build up 1,2,3,4.

  • How do I know what size OraVet® Chews are right for my dog?

Dogs come in different sizes. And so do OraVet® Chews. There are 4 sizes in all, for dogs up to 4.5 kg , 4.5 - 11 kg, 11 - 23 kg and over 23 kg. Ask your vet for help if you're not sure how much your dog weighs.

  • Can unfinished OraVet® Chews be saved for later use?

No. If left out, OraVet® Chews can harden. So if your dog doesn't finish eating one, it should be thrown out.

  • How long will it take my dog to finish a daily OraVet® Chew?

Each dog chews at a different pace, so each OraVet® Chew will last for a different amount of time.

Dental Health

  • Why does my veterinarian use and recommend OraVet® Chews?

OraVet®Chews have been clinically proven to significantly reduce halitosis (bad breath) as well as plaque and calculus (tartar) formation. In a study, dogs receiving OraVet Chews had a 39% reduction in plaque, 57% reduction in calculus and a 59% reduction in halitosis, compared to dogs receiving a dry diet alone 1-8.

  • Why is it important to have my pet’s teeth cleaned and checked regularly?

Like people, pets need regular dental cleaning to remove the plaque and tartar buildup that can cause bad breath and gum disease. At the same time the teeth and gums can be examined properly and potential problems identified early and corrected.
